How to write an address in Moldova
Below is the format usually used in Moldova. It is not an official template, but this is how most letters and parcels look.
Order of lines
- The recipient's name.
- Street, house number, block and flat (str., bd., ap.).
- The postal code, then the place. For villages, add the district too.
- The country, only when sending from abroad.
Chișinău
Ion Popescubd. Ștefan cel Mare și Sfînt 3, ap. 5MD-2001, mun. Chișinău
The code MD-2001 is the one listed for this number.
A town
Ion Popescustr. Independenței 10MD-3121, mun. Bălți
A village
Ion Popescustr. Livezilor 12MD-6813, s. Costești, r. Ialoveni
The street is an example. The village code is from the national list.
From abroad
Ion Popescubd. Ștefan cel Mare și Sfînt 3, ap. 5MD-2001, mun. ChișinăuREPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA
The country goes on the last line, in capitals. Romanian works too: REPUBLICA MOLDOVA.
Tips
- Write the code with "MD-" in front: MD-2012, not just 2012.
- On long streets the code depends on the house number. Check the number, not only the street.
- Romanian diacritics (ă, î, ș, ț) are nice to have, but the address is understood without them.
- If the street was renamed, write the new name. The list may still have the old one.
- For parcels, add a phone number. Many couriers ask for it.
